Learn Spanish in Montevideo, the capital of Uruguay.
Lying on the Atlantic coast and the mouth of the Río de la Plata, the city was founded in 1724 and became Uruguay’s economic and cultural centre. Almost half of the country’s population lives in Montevideo and it is one of the safest cities in Latin America.
Along the coast you will find la rambla, a famous 22 kilometers long avenue that enables you to easily reach the various beaches for a spot of sunbathing and relaxation. The city also has a lot to offer to lovers of history and architecture, with the old town in particular full of historical charm and numerous museums and exhibitions to visit. Throughout the city, colonial buildings mix with modern high-rise buildings, villas and iron huts. Montevideo also has various large parks where you can enjoy relaxing by the lakes or under the palm trees.
On the other side of the Rio de la Plata, lies the Argentinean capital of Buenos Aires. In both capitals, there is a lively tango scene. If you visit Montevideo in February, you will also experience the annual carnival, famous for the popular llamadas parades characterized by exotically dressed women, rhythmic music and a care-free atmosphere.
